ACCESS Program Workshops 2011-2012
September– Program Orientation We invite students and their family to kick off the academic year and meet Leadership staff for a comprehensive overview of the year´s agenda. Together we review purpose and goals as well our expectations for our students.
October–Annual Bay Area Leadership Foundation Walk For Leadership Our annual walk around beautiful Lake Merritt in downtown Oakland to raise funds to support our program.
December – Year End Meeting and Potluck* The morning session focuses on composition and other skills. The afternoon culminates in the end of the year celebration with students, parents, and board members recognizing the achievements and accomplishments of our students during the fall academic year.
January – SAT Preparation This workshop provides in-depth training in preparation for the SAT exam. The goal is for students to experience, in real time, the experience of sitting for the SAT in the fall and spring.
February – Business Simulation In partnership with TRI (a global consulting firm), we host a Business Simulation. In this two-day session students are given a multi-million dollar budget with which to build a new company. They have to address operations, marketing, research and development, sales, and HR issues. Students compete to build the most profitable company. This session challenge students to use critical thinking, leadership and team building skills.
As scheduled – College Tours. Throughout the year we visit local college campuses in an effort to expose our youth to the everyday life of college. The day includes educational and college related workshops, and a college resource fair.
As scheduled – Community Service Project In addition to building academic success, we strive to instill a commitment to community service and social awareness. Each spring we identify a community service project that our students can participate in.
As scheduled – College to Career Skill Development Workshop This workshop leads our students through a series of resume writing, interviewing, and time management workshops to begin to develop those necessary skills needed to ensure their success in college and beyond.
June – Bay Area Leadership Foundation Graduation Our annual graduation celebration where we recognize and acknowledge the successes of our graduating seniors, and celebrate returning alumni of the program.
